REFLECTION (DEMNA GVASALIA)

Demna Gvaslia is a advant garde Georgian fashion designer born in 1981 he graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. In 2

006 and went on to direct Maison Margiela's womenswear collection and later moved to Louis Vuitton as a senior director of womens ready to wear collections, under Marc Jacobs. in 2014 he founded the fashion brand Vetements along with his brother Guram Gvasalia and a year after that he was announced the creative director of luxury fashion house Balenciaga.

Demna Gvaslia is famously known in the fashion industry as a paradox designer because of his bizarre and unusual takes on almost everything he designs, they're sometimes called "internet breaking" designs which are designs so bizarre and weird it stirs up controversy online, throughout the fashion industry and

the general public.

Demna Gvasalia has been one of my biggest inspirations for design because of the use of unique shapes and occasionally bizarre concepts on items of clothing we are all used to. His designs all seem to be inspired by modern society and has a streetwear style and influence which appeals to the youth of today. There is a lot of designs with clear inspiration from social media, pop culture, and first world problems. An example of this was a long jacket from Balenciaga that has a very narrow inner pocket which Demna stated the pocket allowed people to carry wine bottles to and from parties with their hands free. Another design from Demna was a Balenciaga button up shirt that had another button up shirt sewn onto the front of the shirt. Another concept and idea inspired by social media and pop culture was upcycling which Demna did by replacing the heel on high heels with cigarette lighters or highlighters.

The way Demna designs and his ability to create something new out of pre-existing items has allowed me to start to seeings simple and everyday objects/clothes differently. whether people think his designs are amazing or just straight crazy, I love seeing the things he creates and designs. He is a designer I personally think has a really broad creative and artistic range and has inspired and changed the way I think about design.
